Amarah, The Brave One

What You’ll Practice

  • Name a feeling before acting on it
  • Build a safe plan in order
  • Practice a calming routine physically, not just verbally

What You’ll Need

  • 5 sheets of paper or cardstock
  • Markers or crayons
  • Tape
  • Scissors (adult supervision)

Safety note: This trail is for everyday worries and challenges: a test, a new class, a hard conversation. Never use it to pressure a child into a situation that is unsafe, or to push past a fear that is protecting them.

How to Make It

  1. 1

Cut or fold five large cards, one per step.

  2. 2

Label them in order: 1. Feel It, 2. Name It, 3. Breathe, 4. Make a Safe Plan, 5. Take the Next Step.

  3. 3

Decorate each card in Brave Wilds style: trails, canyons, rivers, lookout towers.

  4. 4

Tape the cards to the floor in a line, about one big step apart.

  5. 5

Pick a real, everyday challenge: a spelling test, joining a new game, asking a question in class.

  6. 6

Walk the trail one card at a time and say each step out loud: what you feel, its name, three slow breaths, your safe plan, then your next step.

  7. 7

Walk it again with a different challenge. The trail works best when it becomes a habit.

Section 1

Step Card Labels

Print and cut these five labels, or copy them onto your own cards.

Write your challenge next to each step.

  1. 1. Feel It

  2. 2. Name It

  3. 3. Breathe

  4. 4. Make a Safe Plan

  5. 5. Take the Next Step

Parent & Teacher Note

Walk the trail yourself first, out loud, with one of your own small worries. Courage is far easier to copy than to be told about.
